Each project follows a clear Quality Control Plan (QCP) and Inspection & Test Plan (ITP), which can be submitted for client approval prior to production to ensure all expectations are met from the very beginning.

Tuft Withdrawal Force Test

  • Test Equipment: WIRA TWT (Tuft Withdrawal Tester)
  • Test purpose: To evaluate the fixation strength of carpet pile, that is, the force required to pull each pile out from the base.
  • Corresponding standards: ISO 4919 , ASTM D1335 , GB/T 20225-2006 “Determination of pull-out force of woven carpet pile”
  • Testing process:
    1. Fix the cut sample on the equipment fixture.
    2. Use a tensile gauge to pull out a single pile vertically.
    3. Record the maximum pull-out force (unit N).
    4. Sampling at multiple points and taking the average value.

Backing Pull Force Test

  • Test Equipment: WIRA TWT (Tuft Withdrawal Tester)
  • Purpose: This test measures the force required to pull individual tufts of carpet backing. It assesses the adhesion between the carpet face yarns and the backing material.
  • Corresponding Standards:ISO 4919 , ASTM D1335 , GB/T 20225-2006 “Method for Determining the Tuft Withdrawal Force of Woven Carpets”
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. The carpet sample is fixed in the testing machine.
    2. Individual tufts are pulled vertically from the carpet.
    3. The maximum force required to withdraw the tuft is measured (measured in Newtons).
    4. Multiple samples are tested, and the average value is recorded.

Hexapod Tumble Drum Durability Test

  • Test Equipment: Hexapod Tumble Tester
  • Purpose: Simulates foot traffic to evaluate the wear and tear of carpets, including issues like fuzzing, pilling, and appearance degradation.
  • Corresponding Standards:ISO 10361 , EN 1471 , GB/T 20244 “Durability Test for Carpet Appearance Using Hexapod Tumble Drum”
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. The carpet sample is placed inside the tumble drum.
    2. A rubber hexapod is added, and the drum rotates (usually 12,000 or 24,000 rotations).
    3. The carpet is visually examined for changes in appearance.
    4. Grading is done using a grey scale or image analysis system for objective evaluation.

Thickness Recovery Test

  • Test Equipment: WIRA Thickness Gauge with Static Load Platform
  • Purpose: Measures the ability of a carpet to recover its thickness after being compressed under a static load.
  • Corresponding Standards:ISO 3416 , GB/T 18369 “Method for Measuring the Thickness of Textile Floor Coverings” , ISO 2094 (for underlay materials)
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. Measure the initial thickness of the carpet.
    2. Apply a predefined static load (e.g., 220 N) for 24 hours.
    3. After unloading, allow the sample to rest for 30 minutes, then measure the thickness again.
    4. The recovery rate is calculated using the formula:
                Recovery %=(h2h1)/(h1h0)×100%

Colorfastness to Rubbing

  • Test Equipment: Crockmeter (Rubbing Colorfastness Tester)
  • Purpose: Evaluates how much dye from the carpet rubs off when subjected to dry or wet rubbing.
  • Corresponding Standards:ISO 105-X12 , AATCC 8 , GB/T 3920 “Test for Colorfastness of Textile Floor Coverings to Rubbing”
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. Use a cotton rubbing cloth (either dry or wet) in contact with the carpet.
    2. Rub the carpet in a back-and-forth motion (usually 10 times).
    3. Observe the amount of color transferred to the rubbing cloth and grade the colorfastness using a grey scale.

Flammability Test

  • Test Equipment: Flammability Test Furnace (Radiant Panel or Methenamine Pill Test)
  • Purpose: Measures the carpet’s resistance to flame spread and heat release, assessing how it behaves when exposed to fire.
  • Corresponding Standards:ASTM D2859 (Methenamine Pill Test, US) , ISO 9239-1 (Radiant Panel Test) , EN 13501-1 (European Fire Classification) , GB 8624 “Classification for the Burning Behavior of Building Materials”
  • Testing Procedure (according to ISO 9239-1):
    1. Place the carpet sample at a 45° angle under the radiant heat panel.
    2. Ignite the sample at one end and monitor how the flame spreads.
    3. Record the flame spread distance and maximum heat release.
    4. Classify the carpet’s fire resistance based on its performance (e.g., B1, B2).

Color Formulation and Comparison

  • Test Equipment: Automatic dye solution preparation system, sealed dye bottles
  • Purpose: To ensure consistent color formulation and uniform dye dispersion across batches.
  • Applicable Standards:
    • ISO 105-A05 (Instrumental assessment of color difference)
    • AATCC Evaluation Procedure 9 (Visual color matching)
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. Prepare standard dye solutions in labeled containers.
    2. Use spectrophotometers or visual inspection to compare the sample color with standard.
    3. Adjust dye concentration/formulation if ΔE exceeds allowable tolerance.
    4. Record color formula for repeatable batch production.

Yarn Dyeing & Comparison

  • Test Equipment: Open dyeing pot (simulated lab beaker dyeing)
  • Purpose: To test the dye uptake and shade consistency of yarns before bulk production.
  • Applicable Standards:
    • ISO 105-B02/B07 (Colorfastness to light and perspiration)
    • GB/T 3922 (Colorfastness to washing)
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. Place yarn in the pot with pre-measured dye bath solution.
    2. Heat at controlled temperature and time for optimal dye fixation.
    3. Rinse and dry yarn samples.
    4. Compare dyed yarn against standard color samples visually or with a spectrophotometer.

Carpet Pile Weight Measurement

  • Test Equipment: Precision Electronic Balance
  • Purpose: To determine the weight of the carpet face fiber (pile) excluding the backing.
  • Applicable Standards:
    • ISO 8543 (Determination of mass per unit area of pile)
    • GB/T 14254 (Mass of textile floor coverings)
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. Cut a defined area of carpet sample (usually 100 cm²).
    2. Remove the backing to isolate the pile.
    3. Weigh the pile alone using a precision balance.
    4. Convert to g/m² or oz/yd² for reporting.

Lightfastness Test

  • Test Equipment: Xenon Arc Lightfastness Tester
  • Purpose: Evaluates how carpet colors resist fading when exposed to sunlight or UV light.
  • Applicable Standards:
    • ISO 105-B02 (Lightfastness using Xenon lamp)
    • AATCC 16 (Colorfastness to light)
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. Mount carpet samples in the chamber.
    2. Expose them to xenon arc light under controlled temperature and humidity.
    3. After a specified exposure time, compare with blue wool reference scale.
    4. Grade color change from 1 (very poor) to 8 (excellent).

Gas Aging Test Chamber

  • Test Equipment: Simplewell® Environmental Gas Test Chamber
  • Purpose: Simulates carpet exposure to specific gases (e.g., NO₂, SO₂, O₃) under controlled temperature and humidity to test aging behavior, colorfastness, or structural integrity over time.
  • Applicable Standards:
    • ISO 105-G01 (Gas Fume Test)
    • ISO 105-B04 (Sulfur Dioxide Exposure)
    • GB/T 8430 (Textiles — Tests for colorfastness to atmospheric NO₂)
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. Prepare carpet samples and place inside the sealed chamber.
    2. Inject selected gas and set temperature/humidity per the test standard.
    3. After a fixed time (e.g., 4h to 72h), remove and assess discoloration, degradation, or structural changes.
    4. Evaluate with grayscale for color change or by tensile/visual inspection.

Chemical Reaction Columns

  • Test Equipment: Acrylic Reaction Columns with Weights
  • Purpose: Simulates pressure and chemical exposure to detect bleeding, chemical reaction, or staining when carpet is exposed to chemicals or cleaning agents.
  • Applicable Standards:
    • ISO 105-E04 (Colorfastness to perspiration/alkali)
    • GB/T 5713 (Colorfastness to washing)
  • Testing Procedure:
    1. Fill column base with a layer of absorbent padding or test substrate.
    2. Soak the carpet in chemical solution, place under load in cylinder.
    3. Maintain test duration (typically 4–24h).
    4. Observe staining or chemical migration on the substrate.
