What exactly is broadloom carpet?
Broadloom carpet is carpet manufactured in wide rolls, typically 3.66m (12 feet) wide. It is cut to custom room dimensions, fitted and installed wall-to-wall. Broadloom is the raw roll material that becomes fitted wall-to-wall carpet. The term “broadloom” describes the weaving/width production method, not the fiber type. It can be wool, nylon, polyester or other synthetic fibers.
What is the difference between broadloom carpet and wall-to-wall carpet?
Broadloom refers to the carpet roll product itself. Wall-to-wall carpet is the finished flooring after broadloom has been cut, fitted and installed to cover the whole room from baseboard to baseboard. People often use the two terms interchangeably.
Broadloom carpet vs area rugs – what is the main difference?
Broadloom carpet comes in large rolls and gets permanently installed across the entire room. Area rugs are finished, loose-laid rugs placed on top of existing floors. Broadloom requires professional installation; area rugs are portable and can be moved or replaced easily.
What fibers are available for broadloom carpet?

How is broadloom carpet installed?
Professional installers measure the room precisely. The broadloom roll is cut to size. Tack strips are fixed along the baseboards, underlay is laid, then carpet is stretched tightly onto the tack strips. Seams between carpet pieces are glued or heat-sealed. Finally, excess carpet is trimmed. Stretching is critical to prevent wrinkling and bubbling over time.
How long does broadloom carpet last?
Lifespan depends on fiber quality, foot traffic and maintenance.
