Project Overview
The Horizon Mega Multiplex is one of Singapore’s busiest entertainment hubs. When the facility underwent a complete technical and interior overhaul, the design firm needed a heavy-traffic theater carpet that could withstand massive daily foot traffic while actively controlling the intense acoustic reverberation generated by state-of-the-art Dolby Atmos sound systems.
The Challenge
Commercial cinema corridors and auditoriums experience severe physical wear from continuous foot traffic, heavy cleaning equipment, and frequent spills (carbonated drinks, popcorn oils). Additionally, the architectural acoustic brief demanded that floor finishes must absorb ambient noise—such as footsteps in the aisles during a screening—to prevent disruption to the cinematic audio.
The QIANQIAO Solution
QIANQIAO Carpet supplied a bespoke 3-frame Axminster cinema carpet featuring a modern, geometric pattern embedded with high-contrast fluorescent neon accents for low-light aisle navigation.
Acoustic Engineering: To meet the strict NRC 0.35 target, QIANQIAO integrated a premium 5mm high-density felt backing underneath the woven pile, which significantly dampened low-frequency structural impact noise.
Stain-Shield Treatment: The fibers were treated with advanced fluoro-chemical soil protection, reducing routine maintenance cycles and allowing easy extraction of deep-set stains.
The Result
The multiplex successfully passed all strict local Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) fire safety audits thanks to the ASTM E648 Class I certification provided by QIANQIAO Carpet. Two years post-installation, the carpet maintains its vibrant pattern, thick texture, and superior sound-dampening capabilities.
